Shinfield
The large and widely scattered village of Shinfield lies four miles southeast of Reading. The parish included the hamlets of Spencers Wood and Three Mile Cross, and part of Grazeley. It is on the River Loddon and the road to Reading. The soil is rich and loamy clay with some gravel. Just over half the land was permanent grass, about a third arable and a very small amount woodland.
